The plot revolves around Laura Ramstead, a young high school athlete who collapses and dies after completing a track race. As the investigation into her death unfolds, it becomes clear that there may be more to Laura’s story than meets the eye.
The cast of “Graduation Day” is impressive, featuring many up-and-coming actors of the time. There’s Christopher George as Coach George Michaels, the tough but fair leader of the track team; Patch Mackenzie as Laura Ramstead, whose untimely death sets everything in motion; and Michael Pataki as Mr. Roberts, the school principal who seems to have something to hide.
But it’s E.J. Peaker who steals every scene she’s in as Dolores Ramirez, Laura’s best friend and fellow athlete. Peaker brings a magnetic energy to her role that is impossible to ignore.
The film is set against the backdrop of a small American town in the 1980s, giving it a sense of nostalgia that is both comforting and eerie. The score by composer James Lemmo only adds to this feeling with its haunting melodies and unexpected shifts in tone.
